Kings Hammer Announces Alan Yost Elite Boys Director

COVINGTON, KY (July 26th, 2023) Kings Hammer Soccer Club is excited to announce Alan Yost as the Elite Boys Program Director. Alan has more than 17 years of experience developing players at both the collegiate and club levels. He holds a National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA) Premier Diploma.

Alan previously served as the head soccer coach at Capital University and just wrapped up his 11th year. Prior to Capital, he spent three years as the top assistant coach at Ohio Dominican University. Alan also previously coached club soccer for Ohio Premier Soccer Club. While serving on the girls coaching staff at OP, he led them to their first ECNL National Championship. Then on the boys coaching staff, his teams competed in the National League and were ranked inside the top 25 in the country and in recent years won the Ohio State Championship.

He is also an associate staff coach for NSCAA and teaches coaching educational licensing courses. Currently, Alan also serves on the NCAA Regional Athletic Committee and United Soccer Coaches Regional Rankings Committee, as well as the OAC coaches committee.

“I am honored and extremely excited to be working for Kings Hammer and the Elite Boys Program. From having competed against Kings Hammer teams and recruiting Kings Hammer players I am fully aware of the quality of players, teams, and parents within the club. The values and vision of the leadership align perfectly with me. I appreciated working with Kevin and Paul throughout this whole process and getting to know them personally. This is an exciting time for me and my family!” said Alan Yost, Kings Hammer Elite Boys Director.

“We are thrilled to welcome Alan Yost as the Elite Boys Program Director here at Kings Hammer SC. His arrival marks a new era of excitement and growth for our club. With years of experience in coaching, both at the college level with Capital University and the ECNL level with Ohio Premier, Alan has demonstrated an exceptional track record of success.

Alan’s extensive background in college-level coaching brings invaluable insight into the college recruiting process, which will be an incredible asset for our players as they pursue their collegiate soccer dreams. Additionally, his achievements at Ohio Premier provide us with great confidence that he possesses the knowledge and vision needed to lead a successful elite program.

As we embark on this exciting journey with Alan at the helm, we look forward to witnessing the positive impact he will undoubtedly have in shaping the future of our young athletes and taking our program to the next level,” said Paul Nicholson, Kings Hammer Midwest Executive Director.

July Education: 5 Steps to Prepare for the 2023/2024 Season

The new season is coming up very quickly.  With that in mind we wanted to share the following tips to help parents and players be prepared on and off the field for a successful season. Tip #1: Get Physical Being ready for the new season means being ready to MOVE. Hopefully many of the players have been able to take advantage of the camp programs offered by  There are a number of ways to get young athletes ready to be in top condition to perform in practice and in games.

  • Cross Train- swimming, biking, pickleball, volleyball are all great activities to get you moving
  • Running- not just jogging miles…sprinting, darting, changing directions – tag games are awesome
  • Strength- YES, even young (U9+) players can work on getting stronger using basic Body Weight exercises. Here are some tips
  • Get on the Ball- juggle, practice moves, organize small-sided games at home or at a park. Using Techne is also great and you can track your improvements
  • Make it FUN- Engage the WHOLE family. Mom and Dan can participate, not just supervise!

Tip #2: Nutrition Eating right is important in order to fuel the athlete for performance.  But it can’t start the day before the game, or even the week of practice.  It starts NOW.  Time to put aside the summer picnic menu and focus on these simple guidelines:

  • Balanced Diet- whole grain breads and cereals and lean proteins (chicken, fish, lean red meats) supported by lots of vegetables and fruits (think dark green and orange)
  • Reduce Sugars- try to limit the sugary snacks and read labels, many “healthy” treats are loaded with extra sweets.
  • Plan HEALTHY snacks- starting thinking and planning about pre-practice, pre-game, or even between game (tournament) snacks so that you are prepared with healthy, nutritious, and tasty options that your child will be excited to grab
  • Hydrate- our bodies cannot perform without plenty of water. Start a habit of drinking 8-12 oz in the morning, prior to meals, and at night.  As well as before, during and after activities.

Here are some additional Nutrition resources:

Fall Events

We are excited to kick off the 2023/2024 Event Series with the Battle in the Bluegrass on August 11th-13th in Lexington, KY. This event will be held at one main location, Woodford Youth Soccer Complex, to minimize in-between game travel as well as facilitate coaches’ schedules. It is a great early season tournament to get teams and clubs ready for the fall season. The next event after Battle in the Bluegrass will be the Cincy Challenge that will be held on September 22nd-24th at Voice of America Park & Warren County Sports Park. We look forward to seeing everyone as we kick off the Fall Event Season! Special thank you to our event sponsors: NikeTrophy Awards, and PYB Sports.
