Congratulations Ella Dennis, GK Union August Save of the Month
Congratulations to Ella Dennis, KHA1 G12, who was awarded the Kings Hammer GK Union August Save of the Month. Watch Ella’s terrific save here:
The GK Union refers to a community specifically for goalkeepers within the Kings Hammer Soccer Club. The purpose of this group is to bring together goalkeepers from across the club, offering a platform where they can showcase their best saves and connect with other players in similar positions.
Every month, goalkeepers have the chance to submit their top saves from Kings Hammer matches via the Kings Hammer GK Union Facebook page. From the submissions, two goalkeepers (one boy and one girl) are chosen by Lou Liberatore, the National Director of Goalkeeping, as the Save of the Month winners.
Goalkeepers who want to participate need to:
- Join the Kings Hammer GK Union Facebook page
- Upload their save videos with details like their name, team name, and location of the save.
This initiative helps highlight the skills and accomplishments of the club’s goalkeepers while fostering a sense of community.
Visit from Bronson Gambale, National Technical Director
On Friday, September 20th, Kings Hammer New Albany had the privilege of hosting Bronson Gambale, Kings Hammer National Technical Director, for an impactful coach’s workshop. Bronson shared his wealth of knowledge on advanced coaching techniques, player development, and strategic planning, providing our coaches and staff with invaluable insights. The workshop was a resounding success, fostering collaboration and inspiring new approaches to elevate the performance of our teams and the ‘why’ behind our coaching decisions. We are grateful for Bronson’s time and expertise, and we’re excited to see how these learnings will contribute to the continued growth of our club. Thank you to KHA1 B12 and a few members of KHA1 B11 for serving as part of this educational opportunity for our coaching staff.

September Education: The ‘Laws’ of the Game
One of the leading causes of stress, confusion, anger, and angst during soccer games (youth through professional) is the misunderstanding, misapplication, and misconceptions around the rules of the game.
Here are five of the leading problem-causing culprits when it comes to “Laws” in soccer:
1. Offside (note – not offsides)
The “interpretation” of offside is worthy of an entire book, but a majority of the debate takes place around interpreting two components: the positioning of the offending player at the time the ball was played and if the alleged offending player was “actively involved” in the play.
Being “actively involved” generally refers to 3 possibilities; receiving the ball, engaging the defender as they receive the ball, or actively interfering with the goalkeeper’s ability to make a play on a shot ball. The first is fairly obvious, the second two can be a little more subjective and open to interpretation by the official. If player in an offside position stops their run, then other players coming from onside positions are able to pursue the ball without a call being made.
