Let’s Discuss Gratitude

Throughout February, our partners at Soccer Parenting have been focusing on the theme of “Gratitude” in youth soccer. Kings Hammer supports this idea because we believe gratitude is foundational to our desire to build a strong community within our club and continue to develop an environment in which youth athletes can thrive.

Gratitude is a powerful quality that can transform our perspective and enhance our soccer experience in countless ways.  Gratitude is positivity and being grateful for the things, people, and experiences in our lives.  It is the feeling of appreciation and thankfulness. It rises in the desire to return kindness and joy to others.

Whether you’re a parent supporting your child’s passion, a coach shaping young minds, or a player chasing your dreams, we are fortunate to have soccer in our lives.  So, our first step should be to reflect and appreciate the privilege and opportunities it presents.

PARENTS

  • Value the efforts of our children and the dedication they display on the field.
  • Acknowledge their commitment, hard work, and sacrifices.
  • Recognize that success comes not only from winning but also from the growth and improvement that arises from each training session and match.
  • Be grateful for the friendships and lasting memories forged through soccer, for the life lessons learned along the way, and for the joy it brings to your child’s life.

COACHES

  • Appreciate the trust placed in us by the parents and players. It reminds us to be grateful for the opportunity to mentor and guide young athletes, helping them develop their skills and their character.
  • Express gratitude for the support received from parents and the joyous moments that arise from witnessing the progress made by your players.
  • Remember that your role goes beyond teaching tactics and techniques; you have the power to shape their outlook on life through the game.

 PLAYERS

  • Gratitude helps us maintain a positive mindset on and off the field.
  • Express appreciation for your teammates, as they are a critical part of your soccer journey.
  • Recognize the hard work and dedication of your coaches and parents who invest time, resources, and energy into your development.
  • Develop a mindset of gratitude. This will allow you to embrace challenges, learn from setbacks, and find joy in the game, regardless of the outcome.

Gratitude transforms our perspective, brings us closer together, and makes the journey more meaningful. Gratitude promotes positivity and resilience, allowing us to overcome obstacles with grace and to savor the moments of triumph.  Together, let’s foster a culture of gratitude within the Kings Hammer community. Encourage one another to express appreciation for the game, for the opportunities it provides, and for the people who make it possible.

FIVE EASY WAYS TO SHOW (AND SPREAD) GRATITUDE

  1. Abundance Collection – using a journal or a jar, at the end of each day jot down one or two positive experiences, or things you are grateful for.  At the end of each month review them to remind yourself of the good things you can appreciate.
  2. Express Gratitude – thank the people around you when they support you, help you, are kind to you, or just because you enjoy them being a part of your life.
  3. Show Respect – treat others with the same level of courtesy you would like to receive: smile show kindness, exhibit patience and LISTEN.
  4. Don’t Complain – every time you complain, you reinforce a negative state of mind without offering a solution to a problem.  Instead, next time you feel frustrated, take a few deep breaths and focus on something positive
  5. Acts of Kindness – volunteer in your community, offer to help someone on your team, in your family or school who needs help
