Our Players Are Making College Commitments

Congratulations to Andrew (Andy) Ferring, Kendyhl Dewar, and Conner Thorn on announcing their college commitments this month!

KHA1 B06/07 player Andy Ferring has committed to continuing his athletic and academic career at Asbury University following graduation. Andy shared some gratitude following the announcement on socials, writing, “Thank you to everyone who has supported me in my athletic journey so far: my family, friends, coaches, etc. I can’t wait to see what this next journey brings for me!”

Kendyhl Dewar plays for our KHA1 Lexington G06/07 team and will be playing for Spalding University in the fall after she graduates this year. Spalding University Women’s Soccer took to socials to announce Kendyhl’s commitment, saying, “Welcome to the 502 Kendyhl! We can’t wait for you to join our Spalding family this fall! Time to leave your legacy!” Kendyhl followed it up by expressing her excitement in the comments with a cheer.

Conner Thorn of our KHA1 B06/07 team has announced his commitment to play at Midway University this upcoming fall. Midway University Soccer posted the announcement on their instagram, writing, “Midway Men’s Soccer is thrilled to welcome Conner Thorn to the squad! The talented midfielder from George Rogers Clark High School (Winchester, KY) is making the move from a Cardinal to an Eagle Fall 2025! We can’t wait to see Conner bring his skill, passion, and energy to the pitch. Welcome to the family, Conner!”

Congratulations to you all! We are proud of each of you.

April Education: Navigating the Stress of Tryout Season

First, a reminder that Kings Hammer players at all levels, and in all programs, are engaged in season-long evaluation. This statement may have been seen previously by many families.  It certainly will continue to be stressed, not only during the Tryout and Team Selection period, by throughout a Kings Hammer player’s time with the club.

Every practice and game are moments for the coach, and other coaches within the program to identify each player’s areas of strength, areas for development, personality traits, and additional characteristics. While the tryout sessions are valuable for comparing new players to our current rosters, and for getting final comparisons between similar KH players, Team Selection decisions will be based on season Player Tracking, Player Report Cards, and Team Depth Charts established throughout the 2024-2025 season. Eighty minutes of a tryout will not outweigh a full year of exposure.

But, as we head into this years’ tryouts, here are some strong recommendations to keep in mind from Melissa Jacobs with the Good Game.

Taking a look at “Lessons From a Long Week of Tryouts” by Melissa Jacobs

  1. The First Rule of Tryouts … Don’t Talk About Tryouts
  2. Don’t Blame the Coaches if You’re Disappointed
  3. Understand Coaches Are Piecing Together a Puzzle
